My partner and i are heading over to Mauritius for our honeymoon but are unsure as to what region to stay in ie. Flic en Flac on the west coast or Grand Bay on the north coast, which is said to be the tourism hub but we obviously want to stay somewhere nice

I would suggest you stay at Flic en Flac where you will have the best hotels. Moreover as no place is very far away in Mauritius you may easily travel to Port Louis to visit the monuments and the central market which is a glimpse of the cultural diversity of the country through the range of products available there. You may move from there to the towns in the higher grounds with each having its lot of places of interest. I would however not advise you to stay in Port Louis because this capital city is a mess during the morning and afternoon rush hours and a 'dead' place after working hours although being definitely worth visiting between 100 hrs and 1500hrs. Every destination is at least half an hour or at most within a few hours by taxi because Mauritius is a small country. Hope you enjoy your stay in Mauritius!

The best region i believe to stay in is Port Louis. This is the busy and colorful capital city. There is so much culture in this one place, places to visit aren't so good here, but what you need to remember is that every place that is worth seeing (museums, trou au cerf, ile aux cerf, chamarel etc) are only bus drives and taxi rides away. The fares aren't that expensive either. This country must be the best for holidays with its fantastic beaches. i recommend perey-bere, this must be the most beautiful beach for a quiet, relaxing swim, whereas Blue bay which is even more beautiful is swarming with tourists. Hope this rambling helps...................
Rose-Hill is the best place to stay which is find in the middle of Mauritius where you can move easily to Flic-en-Flac or to Grand-Bay even to the south like Gris Gris, Crocodile Park or East to Bel-mare at the Water park which is very interesting. I will suggest not to rent a car but pay a taxi which is not expensive, quite the same price per day if you rent and you will be free, do not have to read the map and sometime you can get lost too. Foods are very nice, you got chinese, indian, creole food. There is restaurant everywhere. Mauritius is a multicultural island, festivities during the whole year.
Have a nice stay. Enjoy your food. Actually i live in Australia, another great place that you have to visit. Bon voyage.
